One of film and television’s most handsome leading men is about to get “warped.” American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy has courted Matt Bomer for a role that may very well change the way we look at the actor. Best-known for dressing up on USA’s White Collar and dressing all the way down in 2012’s Magic Mike, Bomer already went fairly dark with Murphy’s HBO film The Normal Heart earlier this year. Murphy told Entertainment Weekly:
I try to get him to do everything for me. I sent him a text that said, “First right of refusal, here’s the role.” It’s very…warped.Though Bomer’s journey into darkness in The Normal Heart won him both a Critic’s Choice Award and an Emmy nomination, it will be interesting to see him play not just anguish, but genuine evil. The gonzo nature of American Horror Story has, for three seasons, provided an excellent platform for both newcomers like Evan Peters and veterans like Jessica Lange to make a real splash. Peters’ work on American Horror Story opened up doors for him, landing him a scene-stealing role in this summer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past and Lange’s incomparable scenery-chewing has introduced her to an entirely new generation of fans. So what might this chance to play very much against his matinee idol looks do for Bomer, a star already on the rise? Tune in on October 8 to find out.
